Welcome to the Schema Therapy Institute
I am so excited about the opening of our new stand alone clinic in Essendon. Our team will be a group of passionate clinicians offering a range of services in Schema Therapy and other evidenced based psychotherapies.
Clients will be welcomed by warm administrative staff to help with their treatment enquiries. The new space allows for an expansion of the group program with a group room on site. We will also be offering Trauma Informed Yoga from this clinic, which represents our belief that trauma and emotional distress is held in the body and requires a holistic approach. I am so pleased that we will have a multidisciplinary team as part of the service including a consultant psychiatrist, occupational therapist and child and adolescent clinical psychologist.
Dr. Rita Younan. Clinical Psychologist.
As a psychotherapy, Schema Therapy is a deeper way of working and allows both client and practitioner to understand the developmental origins of someone’s difficulties. The therapy attempts to treat beyond just symptoms but create a healing opportunity to early adverse experiences that relate to the problems being experienced.
As a practitioner, this very humanistic approach feels like a very natural and rewarding process and way to work. The theory and approach itself also resonates for clinicians, as we too have schemas and modes and thus have an appreciation for how these difficulties can come about and the enormous effort involved in creating change in one’s life.
I too had a similar experience to Jeff Young, in that some individuals were not responding to traditional therapy methods that did not have a greater emphasis on how our past experiences shape our current difficulties. For this reason Jeff has devoted his life to developing this highly effective and evidence based therapy. Like many other practitioners and clients, I am deeply grateful!
