Scott McDonald

Psychologist

Scott is a registered psychologist with a Masters in Educational & Developmental Psychology. For almost a decade, Scott has worked in the fields of mental health, child protection and counselling. He has practised counselling in community settings with adults, in schools with adolescents and in mental health settings with a diverse range of client groups.

Scott has a client-centred approach. He provides a safe, open and non-judgmental atmosphere, with the aim of supporting clients to understand themselves and their interpersonal relationships at a deeper level. By looking for the source and developmental roots of thoughts, feelings and behaviour, Scott supports clients to gain greater self-awareness and self-acceptance, and healthier relationships with others.

Scott has a keen interest in Schema Therapy and is passionate about helping clients identify unconscious thoughts and patterns to enable a more profound understanding of the self. His flexible approach draws upon other evidenced-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions-Focused Therapy, and strengths-based work.

He is particularly interested in working with people who have issues with perfectionism, self-esteem, attachment, interpersonal relationships, social anxiety, and panic attacks.

Scott has recently completed training in Clinical Hypnosis. This can be used in conjunction with other forms of therapy where needed.

Scott works Tuesdays 2-8pm & and every second Saturday 9-5pm at the Drummond Street location.
