Starting from Within: “Experiencing Schema Therapy from the Inside Out” Singapore

12 June 2020

An important part of training for Schema Therapists is self-therapy to understand one’s own schemas and modes, the role they play in being a schema therapist and the impact of patients’ in triggering schemas and modes. Such self-awareness is critical to the genuine, open presence required by ST’s limited reparenting model; this is particularly important for therapists conducting group ST, as the impact of a number of clients at the same time can amplify therapists’ reactions and just being in a group can have triggering effects related to one’s family of origin. Self-schema therapy has personal benefits as well, in terms of self-awareness and healing for one’s Vulnerable Child mode.

Joan & Ida spent two years as members of a self-therapy for therapists in their training and consider that experience critical to their understanding of themselves, their reactions when participating in a group and what clients experience and for this reason created this workshops for practitioners to participate in ST from the “inside – out”.  Each SP/SR workshop will be a different experience based upon the group and the issue you decide to focus on for the experience.  For that reason, it is possible to benefit from coming to more than one SP/SR workshop without it being too repetitive. You will have a different experience in personal benefit, increased self-awareness and knowledge of and comfort doing ST each time.

Dr Rita Younan is the only accredited practitioner in the Southern Hemisphere to run this workshop where it counts towards the fourth day of the Group Schema Therapy Training for those pursuing certification in Group Schema Therapy.  Dr Younan has assisted Joan Farrell and Ida Shaw in facilitating this training and has been supervised directly by Joan and Ida for over 10 years in Individual and Group ST.  Dr Younan is also part of the research team in assessing the effectiveness of this workshop on practitioners clinical practise.

The cost for the two day workshop is $800 Early Bird before 11th March 2020 OR $900 thereafter; for more information and registration details please go to

DUE TO COVID – 19 this workshop is postponed to June 2021.
